Ready for STEM would like to thank two Engineering Student Engagement Partners (Ryan Letto and Mateo Vergara), for conducting a literature review of student and teacher engagement surveys in STEM. Their review identified the S-STEM survey which has formats for elementary and high school students to investigate their ability and interest in STEM and 21st century skills.

Everyone is invited to drop by MUN Botanical Garden to enjoy Canada Day Celebrations. A variety of crafts, stories, games, activities, duck-feeding, nature hikes and prizes will be provided throughout the day. Create a one-of-a-kind Canada Day butterfly, follow the Maple leaf trail, go on a Canada Day scavenger hunt and find the hidden butterflies in the flower gardens. Refreshments, including a birthday cake, will be provided. Admission fees apply. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

From Saturday morning cartoons to blockbuster films, animating has the power to inspire, educate, and entertain. Traditionally, animation involves drawing several pictures, sometimes thousands, then playing them in sequence to create the illusion of movement. Today, we have digital tools that help us create animations more easily by letting us control characters, backgrounds, and even sounds with code. This experience offers learners the opportunity to express their creativity in a super fun environment and learn about the different elements of a story, as well as basic design principles. Using Scratch, a beginner level programming environment, learners will create interactive stories through animation. They will also be introduced to Scratch's amazing online community, where they will have the opportunity to upload their projects for others to enjoy!

Learn how to code and create with SCRATCH an interactive and imagination based programming tool to create stories and fun on the computer! Ages 8-12 in the AC Hunter Library Computer Room. This 6 week program will run on July 11,18,25 in two groups. Group A will meet from 10-11 and Group B will meet from 1115-1215. Please call 737-3950 to register as space is limited (10 per group).

Questers will have the opportunity to meet real engineers and scientists, and perform cool, hands-on activities and experiments in actual university laboratories. We promise a week of educational adventures, where questers will have the opportunity to discover their inner explorer!

Beginning July 10, Brilliant Labs, in partnership with the federal government’s CanCode and Summer Jobs programs, will launch a series of camps for youth to learn coding and digital skills development. College of the North Atlantic Prince Phillip Drive campus is one of several partners that will host these youth and provide a venue for “campers” to learn code and manipulate devices in a fun learning environment.
